Nele Berckmans (°1991) is a Brussels based fashion designer who graduated
at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) Ghent. She completed internships
in the studio of Christian Wijnants in Antwerp and at the Niyona leather workshop
in Brussels. In 2014 she won the FFI (Flanders Fashion Institute) award and the
Belmodo loves KASK talent 2014 Award with her graduate collection 'ERUV'.

A bold use of color, rich materials, self made prints and embroideries are the
key features of her work. The love for craftsmanship is tangible in the various
handwork techniques she applies herself.

Her work is often about how we use dress as a tool for placing ourselves in a
community. It depicts women's views on their environment and the place they
have in it.

Pieces from Nele Berckmans' graduate collection have been exhibited in Bozar,
Center for Fine Arts Brussels, as a part of the exhibition 'The Belgians: an un-
expected fashion story'.
